Man sent to prison in heroin case
URBANA An Urbana man who admitted having heroin intended for sale has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Joseph L. Reed, 26, whose last known address was in the 1500 block of Hunter Street, Oa Oakley Outlet kley Outlet pleaded guilty Wednesday before Champaign County Judge Harry Clem to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Carlson said Urbana police officers had been investigating Reed for alleged drug activity for several weeks when they felt they had enough evidence to arrest him on Dec. 17.
She said polic Oakley Outlet e stopped him in a car in the 1400 block of Ivanhoe and arrested him. She said he admitted he had been selling heroin since returning to the area from Chicago about three months earlier.
Carlson said a search of Reed at the jail turned up a bag containing less than a gram of crack cocaine rocks and a bag containing 1.6 grams of heroin. Both were found in his underwear.

Reed was also fined about $1,730. He was given credit against his sentence for 94 days served in the county jail.
Carlson said Reed has prior convictions for theft, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving under revocation and driving under suspension.
