Man faces felony drug charges
URBANA A St. Louis man who allegedly brought drugs into the county jail in his mouth after being arrested on a weapons charge has been charged with three felonies.
Champaign police Sgt. Tuesday saw Oakley Vault a vehicle pull into a convenience store on Bradley Avenue in west Champaign. The officer recognized the vehicle as one associated with a man for whom police had an arrest warrant.
The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics so the officer had the three occupants get out and patted them down for weapons. In the vehicle, he found a black revolver between the front seat cushion and the middle console, Griffet said.
One of the passengers, Donovan McCombs, 24, admitted that the gun was his.
He and the others were taken back to the police station where they were interviewed, then later Oakley Vault taken to the county jail.
McCombs was charged Wednesday with armed violence for allegedly having the drugs at the same time he had a weapon and two other equally serious felony counts of possession with intent Oakley Vault to deliver cocaine and her Oakley Vault oin. If convicted, McCombs faces a mandatory prison term of between six and 30 years.
