Man faces drug charge after dozing in drive
URBANA A Champaign man who apparently passed out in his vehicle at a fast food business over the weekend is due back in court in a couple of weeks to face a charge that he had cocaine.
Astin Winfrey, 22, who listed an address in the 1200 block of Thomas Drive, was charged Monday in Champaign County Circuit Court, with a single count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
A Champaign police report said on Saturday, police were sent to a restaurant in the 2000 block of North Prospect Avenue to check on a man reported to be asleep in the drive through lane.
Police found a man, later identified as Winfrey, sleeping in the vehicle, which was in park with the engine running. They also saw an open beer bottle in the vehicle.
Police woke Winfrey and asked for a license and he admitted he didn’t have one. After being arrested for not having a valid driver’s license, he was searched. Th Oakley Vault ey found eight small plastic bags of a white powder. A search of the vehicle turned up two bags containing an off white rock like substance that field tested positive for cocaine, Oakley Vault totaling 21 grams.
Winfrey asked for mo Oakley Vault re time to hire his own attorney to r Oakley Vault epresent him on the Class X drug charge and was told to be back in court Aug. 16. He remains free on bond. If convicted, he faces six to 30 years in prison.
